Metro Line 13 is a two-in-one connectivity solution for the Bhayandar-Vasai-Virar belt, consisting of a metro line to transport commuters across Mumbai’s northern suburbs and a six-lane bridge to bypass one of the city’s most congested roads.
The 25-kilometer corridor, approved by the Maharashtra Cabinet this month, would connect Bhayandar to Virar, and its 4.92-kilometer integrated road-and-Metro bridge across Vasai Creek will shorten the road route from Bhayandar to Vasai from 40 minutes to 10 minutes.
The two linkages are expected to relieve pressure on overcrowded suburban trains and congested creek crossings, which now carry the majority of the region’s traffic.
How will the Metro line help?
The suburban rail is now the only reliable mode of public transportation connecting these northern suburbs.
However, this route becomes quite congested during peak hours, making day-to-day travel challenging. Commuters have long desired an option that will change the game.
For road commuters, the metro will provide a dependable and smooth alternative to congested roadways that rely on narrow creek bridges to access Mumbai’s peninsula.
The integrated road bridge across the Vasai Creek will also reduce traffic congestion.
